A Study of the Sexual Satisfaction and Related Variables in Middle-aged Women

Abstract
|
|
|
This study was conducted to explore the level of sexual satisfaction and to determine the factors influencing sexual satisfaction in middle-aged women. The data was collected from December 10;1998 to January 30;1999 by means of questionnaires. Sexual satisfaction was measured by sexual satisfaction scales(Kim at el;1997) which is consisted of 17 -items. Marital intimacy was measured by Marital intimacy questionnaire(Kim;1998). The data was analysed using SAS/PC.
The results were as followings;
1. The study surveyed a total of 153 married women who live in Kwangju;and Chonnam area. The average age of respondents was 46.1 and the average age of their spouse was 49.6. There were the mean monthly frequences of coitus 3.58;time of coitus 14.2minutes;time of communication with couple 98.3 minutes/day;the mean score of marital intimacy 19.07.
2. The factors which were significantly related to living area were the frequency of coitus(urban 2.98;rural 3.94;t=-2.37;p=0.01);the time of communication with couples(urban 83.46 minutes;rural 119.13 minutes;t=-2.10;p=0.03).
3. The factors which were significantly related to age group were the frequency of coitus(F=6.13;p=0.006);the time of communication with couples(F=2.82;p=0.04).
4. The mean score and standard deviation of sexual satisfaction was 41.30 ± 7.13 with the range from 17 to 68 score.
5. There was no significant differences between sexual satisfaction and general characteristics.
6. There were positive correlation between sexual satisfaction and time of coitus(r=0.34;p=0.0001) and marital intimacy(r=0.35;p=0.0001).
7. The sexual satisfaction which explained 20% of the variences were time of coitus;marital intimacy;marital satisfaction.
In conclusion;the sexual satisfaction related time of coitus;marital intimacy;marital satisfaction. The program of health promotion or the sexual counselling program for middle-aged women should consider this result in the future.
